More rock ‘n’ roll via new RJ station
Inquirer.net – Oct 23, 2007
3 too oldies-oriented and maybe a bit confused because it also plays mainstream pop ballads and disco. The plugs on UR say it will focus on three branches of the wide rock ‘n’ roll tree: Classic modern and Pinoy. Classic rock mostly from the late 1960s to the ’80s refers to the great album-oriented stuff from pre-Edsa I RJ. Modern rock is punk and new wave plus maybe some hot new bands. ne sure thingPinoy rock of course translates to one sure thing: Local recordings not fortunate enough to get airplay elsewhere will be included not only on UR’s regular play list but on the pioneering “Pinoy Rock & Rhythm” show which has likewise been revived. This show incidentally still has Howlin’ Dave as host. It airs Sundays 12 noon to 4 p.
Loverboy singer credits hard work and loyal fans for longevity

We were in the minority obviously as Loverboy sold millions of records won five Juno awards and toured with major acts such as Def Leppard Cheap Trick and ZZ Top. And then instead of disappearing at the end of the decade as I smugly predicted they stuck around. Their songs are still played on classic-rock radio and they’re still pounding the North American circuit. To prove me even more wrong concrete evidence of Loverboy’s enduring vitality is in stores today. Just Getting Started is the band’s first new album in more than a decade and I have to admit that it’s not half bad. There are catchy pop-rock numbers as well as some heartfelt ballads but with Reno’s distinctive voice in terrific shape and Dean’s guitar supplying the crunch the disc signals the return of a revitalized version of the Can-rock hair band. And then when I met singer Mike Reno for an interview last week I found him to be neither arrogant nor pretentious.

Rocktober rocks-less in “real” Rockies
Denver Post – Oct 23, 2007
While most of the world was busy jamming the Internet on Monday with fruitless attempts at spending the last weekend of the month in Lower Downtown the truly savvy found themselves ankle-deep in the High Country’s first powder day of the season. Rocktober has a new face on the ski slopes this year and for once it isn’t painted in P-tex. Despite the recent attempt by Denver’s newest darlings to trademark the term (that’s been batted around by countless classic-rock radio stations since the ’80s it should be noted) the real Rocks of ctober have traditionally been the domain of early-season skiers and snowboarders willing to take their chances on the slopes of places like Loveland and Arapahoe Basin. With snow bases that couldn’t pass for a pitcher’s mound fall skiers in the past might just as well have referred to lift tickets as seats in the Rockpile. But thanks to a clutch performance from our heavy hitting friend La Niña there’s a new game in town this month and a series of snowstorms stacked up for consecutive weeks has turned pre-Halloween skiing from a Fear Factor challenge into a bona fide contender. Most of the state’s ski areas suddenly find themselves behind the curve scratched from the lineup while Arapahoe Basin and Loveland are seeing the payoff after their own little autumn playoff for first place in skiing’s national league. A-Basin of course won the race with an ct.
WRLD SERIES PREVIEW: Rock your Sox off at the Fall Classic
McGill Tribune – Oct 23, 2007
substring(0 thispageresult. In reaching the Fall Classic both the Sox and the Rockies have had their fair share of stellar performances on the mound. The Colorado staff highlighted by Canadian ace Jeff Francis and his 2-0 record and miniscule 2. 13 ERA has been lights out in their consecutive series sweeps of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Rockies will send hard-throwing Ubaldo Jimenez to the mound in game two as the young righty has proven capable of handling major league hitting using a devastating fastball to set up a nasty complementary slider on his way to a similar 2-0 record and an even gaudier 1.
