Rushmore to the founders of rock and roll the faces on rock would be Chuck Berry Little Richard a rotating white guy (Elvis Buddy Jerry Lee. depending on the season I guess) and “the riginator” Bo Diddley.

” Not unlike the fictional band in the song the rock group Friends met in high school at Millikan High School in Long Beach part of one of the largest graduating classes of 1969. Although their origin is accurately if only coincidentally described in Adams’ opening verses the similarities stop there. Unlike the song’s band that can’t stay together Friends has played together intermittently for the last 40 years.

I never listened to My Morning Jacket until I heard the first single off this disc “I’m Amazed” and was immediately hooked. This is classic rock on a grand scale and the whole album doesn’t disappoint – mixing rock funk and a careful attention to the sometimes forgotten secret weapon in a great rock song – the hook. This is a very eclectic disc. Like the Kings of Leon My Morning Jacket has been around for some time and have finally broken through after several tries at bat. Try listening to “I’m Amazed” once and you won’t disagree. ”ELVIS CSTELL – MMFUKU.

● Have I mentioned Rock Bridge is really good? h yeah I guess I have. The Bruins (10-0) have yet to play a game on their home floor – they’ll finally get to do that Tuesday against Rockhurst – but Jim Scanlon’s crew keeps putting on a good show wherever they go. I’m looking forward to a potential championship matchup between Rock Bridge and Moberly in the finals of the Smith-Cotton Classic later this month in Sedalia. After chatting with Moberly Coach Tyler Hames yesterday I might have more to say about that in next week’s notes. ● Hickman might be the best Class 5 team in the state without a key player taller than 6-2. I’m not sure how far that will get the Kewpies (7-2) in the postseason but if the Missouri State High School Activities Association develops a playoff division for ridiculously short teams Hickman should enter. ● GREEN MEANS G(D): In the midst of a game Rock Bridge girls basketball Coach Jill Nagel takes a traffic-light approach to her team’s play.

Plant scored just under 10 per cent of the total vote. "Thirty-two of the Top 40 are still performing today" notes Planet Rock "while the youngest entrant in the list is former Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell who made the list at number 39. "And the only female representation in the top 40 is Janis Joplin who is at number 21. Stevie Nicks and Grace Slick fell just short of the list. " It’s about as ‘classic’ as classic rock can be then. The full Top 40 is: 1. Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) 2.

Despite a faltering economy you have to like the optimism of area band members about the forthcoming year and all the shows and possibilities. Maybe it was just because there were a lot of cute girls in the audience. From there it was off to a private party where they were playing a lot of classic rock on a jambox. I’m beginning to think there should be a law against anyone over the age of 23 dancing. There were some wild tales told about hitting some really dive bars but none of that really sounded interesting enough to pursue. After seeing lots of police cars on the way back to the Pub I decided the green Irish place was going to be my last stop and that was going to end at roughly midnight. After that I suspected that there were going to be a lot of less than able drivers on the road.

Mitch Mitchell’s inventive fills and power pounding on tracks like “Manic Depression” “Are You Experienced?” “Purple Haze” and “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)” set the standard for rock drummers. He was also know for incorporating a lot of jazz influence and playing drums as a lead instrument rather than simply offering a backing beat. And though his short-lived relationship with Hendrix was often rocky particularly when it came to matters of billing and finances (Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding were either let go or quit due to these disagreements) Mitchell continued his association with the guitarist after his death by helping fill out a number of unreleased tracks. Mitchell would go on to play and record occasionally through the years and had just finished up playing as part of the celebratory “Experinece Hendrix” Tour when he died in his sleep of natural causes in a Portland hotel room.
