Rising above: Classic rock is cool again for Great White
Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier
And after 100 people including guitarist Ty Longley died in a fire at a 2003 show even Russell questioned the band’s will to go on. But changing sensibilities and a desire to jam has once again made Great White a force to be reckoned with. A new generation of fans introduced to classic rock via "Guitar Hero" have joined their parents at concerts. And people of all ages are tuning in to the group’s straight-ahead melodies about love life and making it to the next payday. "We are a very honest band" Russell said in a phone interview. "I write about what’s going on in my life and pretty much what’s happening with me day-to-day is what’s happening with you. Whether you’re serving french fries or singing in a rock band we all go through the same stuff.

My Classic Rock Memorial Day Weekend
TheDay
I will say though in a similar context that over the course of a long holiday weekend in which I worked two shifts and was driving extensively on various assignments I decided for fun to dial in as many classic rock stations as possible. Why?Well Memorial Day weekend is traditionally when all those radio folks do their Top 500 Rock Tunes f All Time countdowns or stage classic rock party-block marathons etc etc ? and the great thing is they?re actually not joking. Which is hysterical because absolutely nothing changes from normal programming. The countdown always ends the same ? or almost the same ? and ?Free Bird? and ?A Day in the Life? and ?Stairway to Heaven? always battle it out to see which is the Greatest Rock Tune f All Time. (Which is it you ask? Well I don?t wanna ruin the surprise. You?ll just have to wait til Labor Day when it all happens again!)r there are the party blocks ? in which a disc jockey (or in today?s formats the computer program) spits out three or four songs in a row by the same artist.
