Dino Jr.’s ferocious guitar rock
The Weekender
” In every way “I Don’t Want to Go There” is a quintessential anthem for the Lollapalooza generation released 15 years after the alternative nation’s climax until two spastic song-ending solos conjure the image of a snarling Neil Young stalking the stage wringing sweat-soaked notes from his guitar. “Imagination Blind” the other Barlow track is psychedelic and straightforward at the same time and one of “Farm’s” more direct tunes. Someday soon bands like Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth might earn classic-rock status which is an interesting bit of irony considering they helped slay mainstream ’80s pop metal. Snobs might shudder at the thought but let them argue over it while you bust out your best eyes-closed air guitar moves to records like “Farm” which would be more at home in your collection next to your Bad Company than your Dead Milkmen anyway.

That said it’s been over three years since the band released its last album You In Reverse and some fans we’re starting to get a little antsy. The good news is that the band is reportedly releasing its seventh full length disc titled There Is No Enemysometime this fall. Fans are also hopeful that Doug Martsch and company are rejuvenated enough to pursue a direction reminiscent of their classic releases such as There’s Nothing Wrong With Love. While there is a lot of speculation online and on messageboards about the band’s next release we don’t have any additional info except that it will be released on Warner Brothers — and will hopefully feature plenty of guitar solos.
Review: Bachman Cummings concert

That?s because let?s face it regardless of what any legal loophole suggests guitarist Randy Bachman and singer Burton Cummings were The Guess Who. They were the driving force creatively in the Winnipeg band?s heyday and its stars. Everybody who knows and loves this classic rock outfit knows that. Everybody in Canada at least. Which may just be why The Guess Who?s itinerary ? The Guess Who featuring original bassist Jim Kale who holds the legal rights to the name as well as the original drummer Garry Peterson ? don?t seem to be all that active in their homeland these days.
