punk queens The Runaways and then as leader of the none-more-rock Blackhearts. Jett cut a commanding figure in the ’80s with a tough gruff sound that rocked as hard as anyone’s. She’s best known for the hits “I Love Rock ’N Roll” and “I Hate Myself For Loving You” but her songbook runs quite a bit deeper and her most recent album 2006’s Sinner was surprisingly strong.

21st Century Breakdown – New Classic Rock?

attachButton(element);Wed Jun 17 2009 at 06:26:14 AM PDTn July 25th my wife and I will be going to Albany New York to attend our first rock concert in 25 years. At 46 and 52 we will probably be the oldest Green Day fans in attendance but we don’t care because Green Day rocks. There is a reason classic rock is called classic rock. Just ask any 20-something Led Zeppelin fan. His or her children and grandchildren will probably be listening to Zeppelin on an iPod charged on a repurposed exercise bike because Led Zeppelin still rocks decades after their last album went Platinum. I can reasonably say the same thing for Green Day’s new album. If people like me who scoff at most of today’s music as being barely structured noise can listen to it there has to be more to it than the desire to play the state fairgrounds circuit before an audience with more tattoos than musical taste.

Milford Daily News
If you closed your eyes this could have been an Aerosmith concert circa 1976. Ripping into “Toys” the boys hit with standout tracks “Uncle Salty” and “Adam’s Apple” before performing monster hits “Walk This Way” and “Sweet Emotion” two of the group’s best-known songs. “Toys” which also included the controversial “Big Ten Inch Record” and burners “No More No More” and “Round and Round” is considered one of the classic rock albums of all time and it was great to see the group reach into its catalogue to dust off these nuggets. After that blast from the past the group returned to its 1990s hit “Livin’ on the Edge” featuring a segment in which Perry competed with his video guitar hero image of course smashing him to pieces with some sizzling solos. Perry remarked: “Ain’t nothing like the real thing. ”And that’s what the crowd got with the blistering show closer “Draw the Line. ”The encores were a little surprising.
