Guitar Hero 5: Johnny Cash’s Videogame Debut

I’m a big Johnny Cash fan and it’s great to see some of the older generation get represented in a series as big as the Guitar Hero franchise. I wonder how many gamers will drop their poor taste in modern music and get into some classic rock tunes?I’m really waiting to see when ActiBlizz announces Jazz Hero — there’s something I could really get behind.

The shirts all featured in the Johan Kugelberg book “What Comes Around Goes Around: Vintage Rock T-Shirts” were displayed Friday for a crowd that included former ‘N Sync singer Lance Bass. The shirts while lightweight come freighted with historical significance. A classic “Rock and Roll Lives” T-shirt was sported by New York Dolls bassist Arthur “Killer” Kane for a shot that appeared on the back cover of the trailblazing band’s second album 1974’s “Too Much Too Soon. “A long-sleeved sweater designed to promote the Stones’ 1973 “Goat’s Head Soup” album was expected to sell for $4500. It’s believed to be one of only a dozen produced. A 1979 T-shirt immortalizes the New Barbarians a band that featured Stones Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards; the group formed toured and disbanded within the space of a year. Updated versions of classic rock T-shirts – tops with the CBGB or Rolling Stones tongue logo are two prime examples – remain popular and tour shirts are ubiquitous at any music show.

Now criticism notwithstanding “Viva La Vida” is better than a lot of albums out there right now. Please consider it only a humble submission that their older records are better. You may not consider Coldplay classic rock. Give it time and it is a guarantee that their music will be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. If that does not qualify as “classic” rock then monikers mean nothing in the first place. Bands emulate them but there are very few artists that can touch the kind of stratospheric rise to rock prominence that Coldplay has attained in such a short period of time. Go pick up their older albums today.

Speaking of heavy-duty if it’s a heavy-duty theme you’re looking for check out the song "Find My Way" in which the singer hopes to be able to avoid the demons such as drugs. This is a band steeped in the tradition of classic rock and jam bands. I mean the kind of classic rock that makes you want to bust out your air guitar and pump your fist as you sing along. "End of the Line" is a great example of such a song. So is "Half Dome. "There are also some mellower tunes such as "Let It Ride" whose overall feel is reminiscent of The Band.
